FAQ

Q: Where do you go diving?

A: In the water (only joking), this is a question we get asked very often, when the weather permits we go diving in the North Sea, there are dozens of WW1 & WW2 shipwrecks out there. We also go up the coast to Beadnell, The Farne Islands and St Abbs amongst others. If we can't get in the sea then we do training dives at Ellerton Lake near Catterick and at Capernwray in Lancashire.

Q: How long can you stay down?

A: Another regular one. It depends upon depth, gas mix and the divers own air consumption. This is highlighted in more detail during the academic portions of your courses.

Q: What does the Open Water course consist of?

A: There are five academic sessions, where you learn the fundamentals of diving. This includes Knowledge reviews and Quizzes. There are also five pool sessions where you will have your first experiences of diving, within this section you will learn how to use SCUBA equipment in the underwater environment. You will learn skills as identified in your academic modules, that you will need in order to master the underwater environment. Then there are four Open Water modules where you will put into practice the skills that you learned in  the pool and allow you to experience the fascinating underwater world.

Q: Can I try without enrolling on a course?

A: Yes. We run 'Discover SCUBA' courses, these are only £10 and consist of a pre-dive brief then an hour in the pool. After which, you will receive a certificate and completion card. If you decide to enroll on a course this will form the first element of your pool modules and we will deduct the £10 off the price of your course.

Q: Do I need to be able to swim?

A: Yes. You will be required to swim 200m and tread water for 10 min's as part of your course. This is not timed however.

Q: Once I qualify, what then?

A: Go dive! we run regular dive trips home and abroad, most weekends someone is doing something, you will make new friends here, they will make you more than welcome.

Q: If I have an illness or injury can I learn?

A: As part of the standard procedures we will ask you to complete a medical questionnaire, if you answerer yes to any of the questions then we will give you the relevant forms to take to your doctor, if your doctor suggests that it is acceptable for you to dive, then yes, if not i'm afraid we can't accept you on to a course.
